The melding of our spiritual lives with the friendship of our communities is one of the greatest gifts of our parish family. We were created in the image of a God who is relational in His very nature. Likewise, we are made for friendship and relationship with others. When our friendships are rooted in our love of God and neighbor, we can enter into deeper relationships with each other.
For the Rosary Group, joining together for prayer followed by coffee, treats, and fellowship is one example of that deep friendship that comes with sharing your faith with your friends. The Rosary Group has been meeting for over 30 years, though members have come and gone during that time. However, a group centered around a devotion to Our Lady has stood the test of time.
“We all have a great devotion to the Blessed Mother,” says Marie Disselhorst who has been attending the Rosary Group for over five years. “It is special to share that love of Mary. We start with the Rosary in the church. We pray for our intentions and those in need within the parish as well. Then we go over to the hall for coffee and we take turns bringing something good to eat.”
Over the years, the group has ranged from five to 20 members. They do not meet if there is a holiday or if too many of the members are unable to make it.
“We would really love to have more people join us,” Marie says. “We consider ourselves a fun bunch. We understand that people have families and jobs, but we would love to see more young people join us as well. Children are welcome! We have coloring sheets or activities for the children, as well as snacks and lemonade. Teaching them to love Mary through the Rosary is important too. So just know that men and women, old and young are all welcome! We also are happy to include people from other parishes.”
The opportunity to grow in our faith and in friendship with those who share your values and beliefs is a special part of our parish community. This particular group is a wonderful example of how the intersection of friendship and faith creates a thriving environment for all those involved.
Please join the Rosary Group for prayer and fellowship on Mondays at 9 a.m. Contact Marie Disselhorst with any questions at email@example.com.
