Prayer is a central part of the Catholic faith. It is through prayer that we come to know and have a relationship with God. Prayer is also one way that we come together as a community. We can unite ourselves in prayer physically, like we do at Holy Mass, or we can pray for each other and the needs in our community. Here at Ascension, the Prayer Line Ministry strives to unite parishioners through their prayers for other members of the parish family.
Pauline Mueller has been part of the Prayer Line for around 25 years. Pauline feels that she is allowing God to work through her when she prays for these intentions. She was drawn to join this ministry because she understands that there is a huge need for prayer and that prayer is incredibly powerful.
“It is important because people just need prayers,” Pauline says. “There are so many people who are in need. We get requests from people every other day, if not daily. There are a lot of people dealing with a lot of different things, and when we get a group of almost 100 people to pray for these requests, there is real power behind that.”
Prayer requests are submitted directly to Pauline or the parish office. The requests are then shared with about 100 people who are on the Prayer Line.
“We pray for people that need prayers for many different reasons,” Pauline says. “It doesn’t even have to be from our parish. If someone calls in and asks for prayers, we pray for their needs.”
Members of the Prayer Line have committed to praying for these prayer requests. There are no specific prayers required. Members choose any prayer that is special to them and offer it for the intentions that they receive. This is a wonderful way to get involved at the parish and to offer some of your time to the community, especially if you have a busy schedule that keeps you from getting involved in other ministries.
“I would love to have more people join our Prayer Line,” Pauline says. “I would love to see more people show an interest in praying for others in our community. There are so many people that need our prayers, and our prayers really do have an important impact.”
