Make the note on your calendar — the 2023 St. Francis of Assisi Parish Picnic will be held on Sunday, Aug. 13. The picnic, which has been a favorite annual tradition for about 22 years, will take place at Phillip S. Miller Park. There is no cost for parishioners to attend.
For parish secretary Mary Kochivar, this will be her second year helping to organize the event. Mary believes that the picnic is a great opportunity for parishioners to grow in fellowship.
“It provides a chance to meet people that attend different Masses in a relaxed, fun environment,” she says.
The Parish Picnic brings parishioners, who may typically attend Mass at different times from one another, together as one parish family. Thus, it is a wonderful way to grow in community and fellowship.
The Knights of Columbus will be grilling hamburgers and hot dogs. Drinks will also be provided by the parish. The rest of the meal is potluck style — this provides you, as a parishioner, a wonderful opportunity to get involved and to bring a side dish or dessert to share. There is no need to sign up — simply bring your favorite dish to share!
In addition to food, there will be games for the children. These games will be provided by the Boy Scouts.
This year will also mark the 22nd Annual Pie Baking Contest. There will be an adult category and a children’s category. The pies are typically judged by the clergy and then cut up and shared with everyone!
