On May 10, at St. Martins University in the Marcus pavilion, we will celebrate our first Saint Michael Parish Gala. This adult-only event is for all parishioners and their friends to help support our parish school and parish-wide ministries. It is a night of delicious food, fine drinks, silent and live auctions, meeting new folks, making new friends, and concluding with dancing.
The SMART school auction, an annual tradition for three decades, has been focused on celebrating and supporting our parish school. This year, the focus is changing to all of our parish ministries with an emphasis on our school.
Sandra Quebedeaux has attended the auction for over 25 years and is now in charge of organizing this new event. As a teacher and parent, she has experienced firsthand the impact of such events. She is excited that this parish-wide Gala continues to meet the ever-new challenges as our parish and school continue to grow.
“This year’s theme is the Roaring ‘20s,” Sandra says. “Decorations will represent the style of the times with the flapper dresses and the big band music.”
The theme of the night is, “Building Hope — Celebrating the Future,” which is reflected in how the event benefits our parish and school community. It is our hope that this night will gather hundreds of our parishioners and their generous friends to celebrate God’s continuing care for us and what God has in store for our future. All funds raised will enhance security for our campus, as well as future developments for our parish school and ministries.
The night will start with a champagne reception, where guests will have the opportunity to mix and mingle and participate in a silent auction. A gourmet dinner and live auction will follow, and the night ends with dancing.
“We want our guests to have a fun night, to be able to mingle with other parishioners and school parents,” Sandra says. “We hope to show the great things about our parish and our school and invite people to support these important ministries.”
Fr. Jim’s vision for Saint Michael Parish School (PACE – Provide Access to Catholic Education) is to fully fund all the ministries of the parish, including the school so that tuition does not impede any Catholic family’s ability to offer their children a Catholic education.
As implementation of this vision continues, the partnership between the school and parish has increased, as has student enrollment. Last year the school saw nearly a 100-student increase in enrollment. In fact, the school is growing to such a degree that many grades now have two classes. It is an exciting time for our parish and school, and it is a perfect time to get involved.
Although the Gala is still a few months away, there is much to prepare, and there are many ways to get involved and support the school. In the past, Gala volunteers and participants were parents of school students — this year, all parishioners are welcome to attend and volunteer.
“We are looking for parishioners to sponsor the event, procure auction items, help with decorations and day of setup and teardown, and bid monitors and spotters during the auction,” Sandra says.
More importantly, all are invited to enjoy the Gala and generously “build hope and celebrate the future.”
“My favorite part of the night is seeing everyone come together in support of the parish and school ministries, and of course, to have lots of fun,” Sandra says.
Please stay tuned for more information and registration instructions as the event gets closer.
