As we prepare our hearts for Jesus to come at Christmas, we can look to ways in which we may fully immerse ourselves in the season of Advent.
“Advent is the time we prepare for the celebration of Christmas,” Fr. Jose says. “This preparation is first and foremost spiritual. During Advent, we relive the experience of the Israelites waiting for a Savior through prayer, reading of the Word of God and fasting.”
There are different ways we can engage in this spiritual journey and prepare our hearts to welcome Jesus at Christmas. Here at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, we offer several events during this sacred season to help our parishioners.
Firstly, we have 40-hour Eucharistic Adoration taking place from Dec. 3 at 6 p.m. until 10 a.m. on Dec. 5. This adoration is organized as part of the Eucharistic Revival in our parish.
“During this 40-hour adoration, there will be quiet time for adoration, group adoration, talks, Rosary, Divine Mercy Chaplet, and time for confessions,” Fr. Jose says.
There is also Eucharistic Adoration every day from 9 a.m. to midnight in the Holy of Holies. We have the Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament on the altar and adoration every day except Sunday from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. And on Fridays, we have the Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament on the altar and adoration from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
“During Advent, we encourage everyone to take advantage of this opportunity and thus prepare spiritually for the celebration of Christmas,” Fr. Jose says.
Frequenting the Sacrament of Reconciliation is an important practice throughout the year, especially during Advent — this is another great way to spiritually prepare and connect with God. Our Advent Penance Service this year will be on Dec. 12 at 5 p.m.
“Confessions will be heard in English, Spanish and Polish with the assistance of 14 priests,” Fr. Jose says.
In addition to all of these opportunities, we also plan to have all-day adoration and confession from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 19.
“Priests will be available for confession for 12 hours,” Fr. Jose says. “Whenever we offered all-day adoration and confessions before, we always had people coming for confession continuously and they were grateful for this opportunity to cleanse their hearts.”
