The new school year will be getting underway soon, and with it comes the opportunity for growth and change. As a parish, it is important to know and be involved in what is going on at the school, because that is where the youngest members of the parish are being formed.
St. Monica Catholic School strives to incorporate the Catholic faith into all aspects of the student’s day. Daily interactions are provided with all the students to help them learn about and understand their faith in the context of each subject and the school community as a whole. In addition, there are individual grade-level retreats. These consist of days, hours, or minutes of reflection based on the students’ age that provide them with opportunities and direction in building a relationship with Jesus Christ.
“The students get to interact with our priests on a regular basis — this includes having them come out on the playground,” says Principal Eric Schommer. “We want the students to have real, authentic interactions with them outside of the classroom or Church setting.”
“St. Monica Catholic School is proud to support many types of learners, and we have an extensive support services team,” Mr. Schommer says. “We offer classes that can count toward high school credits, and continues to maintain and place an importance on science, social studies, art, music, and physical education at all grade levels.”
St. Monica Catholic School is a ministry of the parish. It takes a parish community to build up all the ministries, and the school is no different. There are many ways to get involved with the school, starting with prayer. Prayer is vital to the success of the school, so please keep the school and its families in your prayers.
Your help is appreciated and encouraged.
Mr. Schommer says. “You can volunteer to read or prepare materials in the classes. You can volunteer to help with small groups, on the playground, or in the lunch room.
You can join the School Commission to give us a parish voice during the creation and support of policies and procedures for the school. Join the PTO to support the activities that support our teaching staff. And another way to get involved is by donating to the SGOs to provide financial resources for families that cannot afford a Catholic education We could also use help with the giving garden.”
