Jenny Prichard begins each day with prayer.
“Life is not easy,” she says. “I start each morning by closing my eyes and thanking God for another beautiful day.”
In addition to her morning prayer, Jenny also lives out her faith by saying the Rosary daily, studying Fr. Mike Schmitz’s The Bible In a Year podcast, and subscribes to the Catholic prayer apps, Hallow and Laudate.
“Through the suffering of my family members, my relationship with God has gotten stronger,” Jenny says. “In the toughest moments, I have put a lot of faith in Isaiah 41:10, ‘Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.’”
Jenny and her husband, John, joined Our Lady of Lourdes Parish in 2006. But her roots run even deeper, as she attended our parish with her grandparents during her childhood — they joined Our Lady of Lourdes in 1966.
“We spent many weekends with my grandparents and attended Mass at Our Lady of Lourdes often,” Jenny says. “I went to Root, Carroll, and Sanderson. Through the annual Catholic Convention, I got to know many Catholic youth from other parishes. I always enjoyed my friends from Lourdes. We spent every Sunday afternoon at my grandparents’ for lunch and it wasn’t unusual for a priest to be at dinner — that included holidays as well. I don’t remember an Easter or Christmas Eve celebration without a priest in attendance.”
As a young adult, Jenny decided that if she had a family one day, she wanted them to experience the same upbringing she had. After graduating college, she got a job in Raleigh and joined Sacred Heart Cathedral.
“I chose Sacred Heart because Msgr. Sherba was the pastor and he served as a seminarian at St. Raphael’s when I grew up,” Jenny says. “I met my husband, John, in 2002. Msgr. Sherba married us in September of 2004 at Sacred Heart Cathedral. We continued to attend Sacred Heart for a few more years. My parents switched to Lourdes and we felt led to become members there as well. It was so nice to attend the same parish with my extended family.”
John and Jenny have two children, Owen and Liza. Jenny has been actively involved in many areas of parish life over the years of membership at Our Lady of Lourdes. In 2015, she created the CinderElla Daddy/Daughter Dance for the school and parish, a fundraiser for the Ella Newmiller scholarship fund. Jenny was a member of the first Women of Grace study series and served on the leadership team for several Women of Grace retreats. She participates as a regular adorer in our Adoration Chapel and volunteers with One Day for Him.
“My parents always taught us that you get out more than you give,” Jenny says. “We should share our time, talent, and treasure. My parents were catechists, Eucharistic Ministers, members of the Knights of Columbus, and sponsors for RCIA. My parents attended Marriage Encounter weekends and displayed a genuine love for their faith and church community. We attended the parish family activities, and my sisters and I were active participants in Catholic youth groups.”
Jenny enjoys the supportive community in our parish, as well as the relationship between the school and parish. She also appreciates the variety of ministries we have and the inspiring homilies she hears each Sunday at Mass.
