With 16 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren, John Poepsel is no stranger to the busyness of life. Life is constant and busy and ever-moving — and what that really means is that life is full!
“God gives us so many blessings,” John says. “It is easy for us to take them for granted or to feel overwhelmed by the busyness of life. But what I have found as I have gotten older is that finding time to step away from the busy and spend time with the Lord in gratitude for His many blessings is vital.”
And the best place John believes to do that is adoration!
“Adoration offers us an opportunity to simply sit with the Lord — to offer Him our gratitude and spend special quality time with Him,” he says.
John has been a committed adorer for many years now, and he says that the more he spends time adoring the Lord, the more peace and contentment he finds in life.
“For me personally, it is special silent time I get to spend with the Lord,” John says. “And the more I do it, the more I love it.”
At one point, John was spending time every day in adoration, but as he has experienced health problems over the years, his ability to get to adoration often has decreased. Yet, his appreciation for the gift of adoration and his desire to be there continues to increase!
“The older I get, the more I recognize just how blessed I am,” John says. “I am so grateful for my health and my family — for the fullness of my life. And I just love that I can spend time thanking God for all He’s given me while adoring His Eucharistic presence.”
Adoration takes place 24/7 in the chapel connected to the rectory, and John encourages all of us to find time to go.
“Even if you can only find a little time in your week, it is nice to know you spent that time with the Lord,” John says. “And the fulfillment you will get from sitting with Him in prayer is incredible.”
If you feel God calling you, come to Him. Spend time with Him. Adore Him. There are multiple hours throughout the week still in need of committed adorers, particularly the late night after 11 p.m. and the weekend days. Consider committing an hour a week. You won’t regret it!
St. Augustine once said, “Our hearts are restless until they rest in thee” — and that’s exactly what John has found through the years. Time with Christ is the answer to all of our desires! Find out for yourself. Spend an hour with Him!
