Catholic Schools Week is just around the corner! The week of Jan. 28 to Feb. 3 will be devoted to appreciating the gift that Our Lady of Lourdes School is to our families, parish, and community.
“Since 1974, National Catholic Schools Week has been the annual celebration of Catholic education in the United States,” says Jannine LeBlanc, Principal. “During this week, our school celebrates the support of our parish, community, students, nation, families, faculty, staff, and volunteers.”
This weeklong celebration is special and filled with unique activities that both showcase the great work being done at the school and express the appreciation that the students, faculty, and staff have for the generous support provided by the parish and school community.
“The week is different because we begin it with Mass on Sunday with the rest of the parish,” Mrs. LeBlanc says. “Students participate in the Mass and we usually have pancake breakfast in the Fallon Center that is prepared by the Knights of Columbus. Then each day the school community does different activities to celebrate the various groups that support Catholic education.”
Two annual events that always provide a great opportunity for the students to shine and present their academic achievements are the art show and the science fair. Similarly, every year on the Thursday of Catholic Schools Week, Our Lady of Lourdes School opens its doors to the parish and school community to display and celebrate the wonderful accomplishments of the students and show the value that Catholic education provides to our children.
“Catholic Schools Week to me is an opportunity to celebrate the great things about Catholic education,” Mrs. LeBlanc says. “It allows my students to see how blessed they are to have a community, parents, teachers, and staff that are dedicated to sharing their faith with them. It allows me to see how blessed I am to be a servant leader and bring Jesus to this community.”
Since the week is packed with fun activities and opportunities for students to show their gratitude and academic accomplishments, the school community is buzzing with excitement and school spirit. The students look forward to Catholic Schools Week and are eager to participate in all the celebrations and events.
“The students love the excitement and energy that is present during Catholic Schools Week,” Mrs. LeBlanc says. “They are so proud of their school and enjoy celebrating and thanking the many groups that make Catholic education available to them.”
Our Lady of Lourdes School is the largest ministry supported by the parish. The generosity and support of the parishioners is the foundation of the school’s ability to educate our children and introduce them to Christ through prayer and catechesis. Your prayers and generous offering of time and treasure are greatly appreciated and Catholic Schools Week is a celebration of gratitude for that support.
All parishioners are encouraged to participate in the celebration of Catholic Schools Week. All are welcome to the Catholic Schools Week Mass and pancake breakfast on Sunday, Jan. 28.
