We know that Catholic parishes have religious education programs and Sunday school programs for children and teens. But that’s not always the case for adults. In 2012, Pope Benedict XVI said, in an address to local priests, that adult faith formation is essential.
“We must do everything possible for catechetical renewal in order for the faith to be known, God to be known, Christ to be known, the truth to be known, and for unity in the truth to grow,” he said.
Communications Manager Stephanie Reed is excited to expand our offerings for adult faith formation. In fact, through the parish priority planning, it was determined that more people are seeking faith formation.
“We learned people are hungry for faith formation in various ways, during the days and evenings, men-only and women-only groups, and groups for everyone,” Stephanie says. “We have heard the ask. We are making the effort to fill people’s buckets with those things.”
Holy Family Cathedral is also working on building small groups, and the staff is always open to suggestions for future offerings.
The Tuesday morning formation series, which includes Walking with Purpose, The Eucharist, and Divine Mercy Study, is a new offering. The men’s Holy Hour also has a new time and will include a lesson. Stephanie wants to stress that none of these offerings are meant to be a long-term commitment.
“There’s no obligation,” she says. “The goal is to be as inclusive as possible and for people to find their niche, be formed, and put that formation into action through service. Come as you are.”
To truly practice stewardship, we need to take the extra time to learn the faith.
“We want parishioners to have the opportunity to become better-formed disciples,” Stephanie says.
All are welcome to attend any of our Adult Faith Formation opportunities.
