Now, 2024 is upon us. What kind of year will it be? In the life of our parish, the year ahead holds great promise. We have new Catholics coming into the Church at Easter, dozens of weddings on the calendar, Baptisms, high schoolers waiting to be Confirmed, and some of our youngest parishioners preparing to receive their First Holy Communion. Numerous initiatives will take shape, including great opportunities during Lent and the Easter Season. A new year is exciting and we ask God to bless us with continued growth in the life of our parish and to protect us from whatever harm may come our way.
I am so grateful to so many for all you do in our life of stewardship. Your time, talent, and treasure help us to continue our mission of evangelizing Payne County for Jesus Christ and His Church. The many ministries in our parish breathe life into our community!
One of these ministries is led by Dr. Cida Chase. On Sunday afternoons, Dr. Chase gathers with some of our Spanish speakers and teaches them English. Some are older and looking to be able to better navigate life in the United States, as others are wanting to learn English to be able to improve their employment situation, and while others just want to be able to better communicate in and around Payne County. Dr. Chase does a great job and I am so grateful for her talent in helping others.
The Parish Finance Council plays a critical role in the life of the parish. Led by Jessica Musshafen, the Council meets quarterly and assists our parish business office in not only managing the day-to-day, finances but also planning for the future. The Finance Council is helping us pay down our debt (currently around $675,000), put away money for needed projects, and to invest our money well for future financial security. The work these men and women do is essential to the mission of the parish!
Have a great January and a wonderful start to your 2024!
Very Rev. Brian O’Brien
Pastor, St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church
