Do you believe that anything is possible?
If you’re an adult, the answer is probably no. Most of us have lived long enough to understand that life is full of limitations and that some things are simply unattainable.
However, for children, anything seems possible. When they witness a magic trick, they are mesmerized. When they lose a tooth, they can’t wait for the tooth fairy to come. Their imaginations are limitless.
The children’s poet, Shel Silverstein, showcases the importance of showing children that anything is possible in one of his verses:
“Listen to the mustn’ts, child. Listen to the don’ts. Listen to the shouldn’ts, the impossibles, the won’ts. Listen to the never haves, then listen close to me… Anything can happen, child. Anything can be.”
As stewards, we need to follow suit. We need to believe that, with God, anything is possible. When we pray to God, we need to approach it with the same level of trust a child has when speaking to his father. We need to believe that God will grant us our every need and that, with Him, the possibilities are endless.
When we believe in the impossible, we demonstrate our belief in the power of God; the same God who raised His Son from the dead, turned water into wine, and fed a crowd of 5,000 with five fish and a few loaves of bread.
And, when we believe in the impossible, we also recognize that we humans are, in fact, limited creatures. But, with God, anything can happen. Matthew 19:26 states, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”
As stewards, we need to take heed from the trusting nature of a child and believe. Doing so will clarify all that we are capable of doing and receiving from God, and allow us to be better equipped to share those gifts with others.
