Too often, we have the perfect picture in our mind of what ideal service to God looks like.
We may envision attending daily Mass, visiting the Adoration chapel for hours on end, feeding the hungry at a soup kitchen, praying with those in prison, and volunteering at the cancer clinic.
Or, maybe that’s not your vision at all.
Instead, you may believe being a priest or nun, or maybe even a missionary traveling to a foreign land is the best avenue to serve God.
Truth is, your ideal image doesn’t matter.
You will likely never become what you believe to be the embodiment of the ultimate servant of God. Most of us will never be called to a religious vocation or do missionary work in third world countries. And, most of us won’t be able to do volunteer work or attend prayer services during all waking hours.
The reality is we are all called to serve God wherever we are in life. Housewives, mechanics, architects, movie directors, teachers, etc., are all able to serve God in spite of their vocations or professions. We are called to serve God in the midst of the chaos and the overtime and the temper tantrums.
Don’t let the perfect image of how you see yourself serving God rob you of being a more active steward now. Embrace the gifts God has given you, be grateful for those gifts, and give glory to God for them.
