Msgr. Thomas McGread

Msgr. Thomas McGread has been called the "Father of Stewardship" for his role in establishing the theology and practice of stewardship in American parishes. Beginning in the 1960's, Msgr. Thomas McGread built one of the most vibrant parishes in the country, St. Francis of Assisi, by teaching parishioners how to use their personal gifts, or what he coined "time, talent, and treasure."

Msgr. McGread was influential in the drafting of the U.S. Bishops' pastoral letter Stewardship: A Disciple's Response, which adopted his terminology and theological vision. For him, stewardship is a spiritual, biblically-based principle that begins with conversion of heart and translates into a lifestyle of service. His message is so compelling that he has been invited by parishes and dioceses across the country, and has also been the keynote speaker at several ICSC conferences.

Why I work With Catholic Stewardship Consultants

"I have been asked to work with many companies over the years, but Catholic Stewardship Consultants is the only one I have found that truly understands the spirituality of stewardship.

In my work with Deacon Don, Eric, and the staff, I have been deeply impressed with their commitment to the Church. They view their work as a ministry, not just a business. And we share the same vision of stewardship—not as a campaign or program, but a way of life.

In their work with parishes, Catholics Stewardship Consultants uses the same approach I used at St. Francis. They begin by working with the leaders and emphasizing spirituality. They help improve communication, education, and evangelization throughout the entire parish.

I wholeheartedly recommend Catholic Stewardship Consultants to any pastor who is looking to make stewardship a way of life. In my forty years of developing stewardship, this is the only company I have found that is not a fundraising company, but instead runs a true stewardship ministry."
